On June 25, the city unveiled its first comprehensive plan since 2001 based on contributions from thousands of residents, the city said in a release. The draft will be outlined at seven open houses in July. Residents also can give feedback online through Aug. 6.

The plan has eight chapters that highlight six "vision themes," which include vibrant neighborhoods, unique places, thriving economy, strong connections, renowned culture and majestic landscapes. Mayor John Suthers, who launched the plan in 2016, called it "a guiding and visionary document that will help lead Colorado Springs into a positive, healthy and viable future for generations to come." (Read the draft at coloradosprings.gov/plancos, and a message from the mayor and City Councilor Merv Bennett (below).

Community input was provided through two surveys, which drew more than 5,800 responses.

• July 11 at the National Cyber Security Center, 3650 N. Nevada Ave.

• July 12 at City Auditorium, 221 E. Kiowa St.
