Brian Joseph with Zoe Lewis
Friends House Concert
Saturday, Aug. 21, 7:30 p.m.
Call 329-1644 or 227-8648

Singer/songwriter Brian Joseph just won the Telluride Troubadour Competition, singing for a crowd of 10,000 people and taking home a magnificent custom-made Shanti guitar as his prize. Now everyone can hear him at a friend's house; Joseph will appear Saturday in the Springs, sponsored by Friends House Concerts, a not-for-profit, loosely knit group interested in developing a "community feeling around music." All money collected goes to the artist (send $15 to FHC, P.O. Box 38937, Colorado Springs, 80937), and attendees should bring a potluck snack or drink to share. Joseph has played the Springs twice before, and according to Friends House spokeswoman Whitney Luckett, he is "just magnificent. What I love about him is how he takes really normal situations and puts them into music." Luckett says that Joseph usually appears in a black bowler hat, and places a yellow rubber duck at his feet. Joining him will be songbird Zoe Lewis, direct from the Lyons Folk Fest. For more, visit www.house-concerts.org.
