Jedi Mind Tricks with Black Pegasus and Archetypes The Black Sheep, 2106 E. Platte Ave. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m. $10-$12; visit sodajerkpresents.com for tickets.

Before Matisyahu was rhymin' about Moshiach, and Kanye West was walkin' with Jesus, Jedi Mind Tricks were rappin' about Judas. Often featuring beautiful piano pieces, classical music and creative vocal samples as a background, JMT balance hardass hip-hop lyrics with spirituality and intelligence.

Members Vinnie Paz and Stoupe hail from Philly (and no longer perform with the other original group member, Jus Allah). They're named JMT for the mental exercises practiced by the Jedi of the Star Wars saga. Men who embody the renaissance spirit, they sample Mike Tyson's speeches and write lyrics about Glocks and twelves, but also praise the strength of women and reference King Arthur, Imhotep and the Quran. Catch them this Wednesday, when their well-rounded rap joins the radio-friendly sound of Black P and the underground grit of Archetype (former Idiolectic Conception members) at The Black Sheep.
