At a New Year's Eve house party three years ago, Brandon Apgar, Scott Weis and Omar Jibreen knew they were onto something huge.

In little more than a jam session, these musicians created the local pop-punk band Rent to Own.

Since that fateful night, the band has added Chris Clark, Jesse Ray Garcia and Adam Laird. Now, the six say that they're not just bandmates, but great friends who've meshed well, thanks to common musical interests.

They play what they know best; shows from RTO are largely filled with a feel-good, get-down sound. Jibreen bangs away on the drums, Garcia riffs on his bass, Laird spits hip-hop rhymes, and Apgar, Weis and Clark work the crowd while strumming their guitars.

So far, their hard work has paid off. RTO recently released its debut CD, Euphoria, and, last summer, the band appeared at two famous venues: The Roxy in L.A. and Cooper's Town in Phoenix.

"We want to take our music to the next level and not hold back while having fun," Apgar says. "We have one shot."

And, while they still can, the guys of RTO plan on taking that shot.

"Life's too short," Weis says.
