Politics and poetry

The subjects in current mass media frenzy -- Kobe Bryant, Rush Limbaugh and the World Series -- fuse together like a really bad poem (see page 18). People, it seems, would rather talk about a movie star winning office in California than looking at the politician in their own back yard. Speaking of, whom do you plan to vote for in the upcoming school board election?

Most politicians couldn't tell the truth to save their lives. They just want to get away with whatever they can. - - How many people do you know who vote? Probably around two. - - How many people do you know that don't vote? About 50 or so. - - Who is the worst poet ever? I can't think of any bad poets but I do like a lot of poets like Frost and Edgar Allen Poe. I like Poe because he is really out there. I like a lot of off-the-wall things. -

I don't trust the water bill. I want the water to go to the farmers in Kansas because they need it as much as we do but I don't want the water to go to California because they don't need it as much as Colorado. - - Why don't people care about politics anymore? It is just hard to pay attention when there are so many new names but they are all the same people with the same ideas anyway. - - How many people do you know who vote? About 75 percent of my friends vote. - - Who is one of the worst poets ever? I would say me. I can't write poetry. It is hard expressing my thoughts in ways that don't end up in long rants. -

This year, the United States invaded Iraq, learned the president lied about the reason for waging war on Iraq (weapons of mass destruction, anyone?), and then watched as Special Forces found Saddam Hussein hiding in a hole swarming with cockroaches and spiders. What a year!

    Bad week for the Republicans

Last week's rulings -- outlawing vouchers and Republican efforts to gerrymander the congressional redistricting maps -- left the Grand Old Party sputtering vows to appeal. Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh erupted in anger after investigators looking for proof that he illegally obtained drugs raided his doctor's offices.
