Re: “Medieval duel

As a full time Rennie and booth owner for the last 15 years, I will say that we are a microcosm community like any society. Within our community we have all kinds of groups of people who come from amazing backgrounds before going "on the road," like being lawyers, doctors, teachers, business managers, actors and students. We have departed our old lives to travel, laugh, love and see the country. Just like your community, we also have our rejects, our crazy kids, our frowned upon. They are but a few of us, and they do not represent our whole. That's like saying they arrest a white, clean cut guy who's a pedophile in your neighborhood and that makes you all pedophiles. Well, that's clearly ridiculous. But let me ask you, where in America can you find such artistry, such eccentricity, such originality than the people who work Renaissance Festivals? That kind of person has really been lost quite a bit in recent decades.

This article seems like it was written by "one of us," so thanks to the author. The only thing I would amend is that the stuff that this faire owner has done is even worse and more ridiculous than this article has illustrated.

There are faires around the country who have gone the "local" route in recent years, and they are now considered "low budg" and "flea market" and attendance has been down for years. There is lots of great local talent in each state, but a faire owner who chooses to go strictly local is really cutting off their nose to spite their face. Good luck with that idea, and have fun at your new mall.
