Reader: Citizens should question bike race expenses

  • Bethany Alvarez

Many Colorado Springs residents were severely impacted by the Colorado Classic Bike Race. Large parts of downtown were blocked off. This was combined with the perpetual road construction delays around the city, and it resulted in large parts of the city being in gridlock.

The Colorado Classic is run by RPM Events Group, a private, for-profit business. Local citizens should question the massive use of police and fire department resources, along with other expenses covered by taxpayers.

In the future, it would be better to move the bike route to the outskirts of town. Those who want to attend would still have easy access, but the rest of the population would not suffer the severe impact.
