Reader: Elect an AG who will take a stand for us

Letters

Three decades ago, we chose Colorado Springs as home. Like many, we raised our children here, nurturing hopes and dreams for them, for this beautiful state, for our nation. Today our nation teeters on the brink — the lack of integrity is destructive and toxic. People feel exhausted, helpless, hopeless. We get that. However, we also feel delight. Delight that there's something all of us can do — VOTE in the upcoming primary. Delight because Phil Weiser, a person of tremendous integrity and outstanding qualifications is running for Colorado attorney general.

Phil Weiser's life through line is public service. Phil clerked for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court and served at the U.S. Department of Justice under presidents Clinton and Obama. He was dean of the CU Law School. Phil's that tenacious person who goes after what matters most.

When Phil speaks of being "The People's Lawyer" for Colorado he means it. A natural innovator and collaborator, Phil will passionately work with leaders (regardless of party) throughout the state — making health care accessible, tackling the opioid crisis, protecting our natural resources, and advocating for all people, including women, children and those on the margins.

Let's elect an attorney general who will take a stand for us and join the growing number of state AGs across the country working to protect citizens from Trump executive orders. Please join us in voting for Phil Weiser in the June 26 primary.

— Lynn and Benjamin Young, Colorado Springs
