Reader: Give the Cog to somebody who cares

Philip Anschutz came to our fair town and bought The Broadmoor (2011), then bought the ailing Gazette (2012). Of course, Mr. Anschutz is not a "local guy," and these are both just business ventures. Then he got involved in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and they named it "Broadmoor," made us all watch from fenced-in "viewing areas," and now it's invitation-only to race.

He also bought the Cog Railway, just another business venture. But now the Cog needs repair and there's talk of it not re-opening — ever. The Cog has been a mainstay for the Pikes Peak region for 126 years. Tourists, supply transport, emergency evacuation and other uses depend on the cog. That's how Barr Camp gets supplies and how a lot of folks visit the Peak.

Costs too much to maintain the railway, Mr. Anschutz? Bottom line in the red on this business venture, shut it down? Not good enough!

Put the cog back into the hands of somebody who cares and loves it like we all do. Save the Cog!
