Reader: Robots can only do so much

I'm writing in response to Jim Hightower's fearmongering piece in the Feb. 21 Indy. I am concerned that this may frighten too many readers and cause them to make wrong choices in their life or for their children.

If I had kids, I would not send them to college but make them learn a trade that requires flexibility, dexterity and adaptation to ever-changing working environments. Think of a plumber. No robot can take that kind of job. There are plenty of jobs out there that cannot be automated, ever. Go for those.

And after they learned their trade and can live from it, they always can get "higher" education, if they like. It may not be worth the money, though.
