Reader: Snyder has experience in getting things accomplished

I want to dispute a comment that was made by Calvin Wulf about candidate Marc Snyder who is running for State House District 18. Mr. Wulf claimed that Marc had only served in a small municipality. This is not correct.

Yes, Marc’s has spent 12 years as an elected official, six of those years as mayor of Manitou Springs. He participated in the approval of approximately $1.5 billion dollars in public budgets. He led the city through devastating periods of fires and floods and guided the community through its successful rapid recovery. As mayor, Marc increased the city reserve funds from $112,000 to around $1.9 million. In his work as mayor, he had to deal with more than just the city of Manitou Springs. In order to get some things accomplished, he also had to work with a variety of county and state entities.  In addition, Marc knows how to work with elected officials across the ideological spectrum without compromising his values and principles. From working with state government to civic organizations across El Paso County and the Pikes Peak region, Marc was often the only Democrat with a seat at the table. He has a track record of getting things done. He chaired the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments board, the Regional Building Commission, served on the El Paso County Board of Public Health and served on the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority’s board.

Clearly Marc Snyder has more experience in dealing with a host of city, county and state issues and getting things accomplished. Marc’s opponent, Mr. Martinez, may be knowledgeable in the field of education. However, I have never heard of what his actual experience is in dealing with all the other issues that will affect the lives of the people in State House District 18 which includes, Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City, downtown Colorado Springs, and eastward towards Academy Boulevard, and south to Cheyenne Road.

I encourage all to get the facts straight and vote for Marc Snyder.
