Reader: The short and long of renting

Letters

Regarding the Indy's recent short-term rental article ("The Airbnb next door," Sept. 19): I am currently a renter who lives below a short-term rental. I'm in a house that really shouldn't even be divided up into two apartments, but it is. The renters that lived above us before agreed to have the space split. Downstairs, we can hear everything that goes on upstairs. There are a lot of things that are wrong with the whole situation and so our upstairs neighbors moved out. When they did, my landlord converted it into an Airbnb/VRBO. Now we have to deal with things we normally wouldn't have to. One example: With another leased tenant upstairs, you can address issues you both may have. With constant new guests, it's a new battle every time to make sure they follow the "house rules" set in place by my landlord.
