Reader: This is my neighborhood nightmare

The neighborhood on East Las Vegas Street is terrified. I live in this neighborhood ("Concrete conscience," Cover, Aug. 29) and have witnessed the filth and the violence, have felt the concern for my family's and my neighbors' safety and have been late for work while waiting for the police to arrive to remove vagrants fighting in my driveway so I could simply go earn a living.

The drugs, the trash, the dirty needles, the prostitutes, the drug deals, the overdoses, the deaths, the murders, the assaults, the police, the coroner, the inability of the police to help us clean up our neighborhood all because Concrete Couch doesn't seem to care about those of us who don't just visit once in awhile but live this bad dream every day.

We follow the law and contribute to the community by working hard and paying property taxes. Concrete Couch will not give the police permission to move these people along so we who live here can feel safe in our homes again.
