Re: “Victor Gold Rush Days

Victor, City of Gold Mines Invites You to Gold Rush Days
Each year Victor, City of Gold Mines celebrates its rich mining history by commemorating the hard rock miners of yesteryear and honoring today's modern mining. Amateurs and professionals alike compete in traditional mining games including ore mucking, jackleg drilling and hand steel drilling sponsored by CC& V Gold Mining Company.

New to the festival this year is a beer garden, sponsored by the Victor Volunteer Fire Department and making a return is the downhill gravity races presented by Fortune Club Liquors. We also welcome back the popular Tractor Pull & Antique Tractor Show.

Start the morning with a pancake breakfast at the fire station, check out the vendors, participate in races, games and other activities, do some gold panning, visit an active gold mine, watch the parade and tractor pulls, tour historic homes, see a real blacksmith, visit the Lowell Thomas Museum, relax in the beer garden, enjoy live entertainment and dance the night away - there is something for everyone.

Victor, City of Gold Mines incorporated in 1893, still retains much of its historic mining town atmosphere. A stroll down Victor Avenue is a trip back in time, with its many 100-year old buildings and views of the mining headframes that produced so much of the wealth in the Cripple Creek-Victor Mining District. Victor is one the few places left that has kept its historic mountain town appeal and we hope that you will find it a place to return to often, recommend to others or even find a business opportunity of your own. Victor has several shops offering antiques, collectibles, local art and even an old-fashioned soda fountain.

Recreational opportunities and outdoor fun abound here too. Little Grouse Mountain Trail is located just west of Victor, near the highest bridge on the state highway system. A mining exhibit here provides an up close look at authentic mining equipment once used in the underground mining. The interpretive Vindicator Valley and Battle Mountain Trails take you back to the 1890's, winding past remaining structures of the some of the richest mines in the district. Mountain bikers enjoy the challenge of our high altitude, fishing enthusiasts enjoy Skaguay Reservoir, just six miles from Victor. Other events this year include Victor Celebrates the Arts, Casa Bike for Hope, Vets Rally Best Dressed Motorcycle Pageant, Stargazing and Richard Marold as Nikola Tesla at the Stratton Outdoor Amphitheater, and Gold Camp Christmas & Headframe Lighting.

Re: “Reader: Who cares how much taxes Trump paid!

People here are making a lot of assumptions that Trump doesn't pay taxes, like any successful business person he pays what he is legally obligated to. If you don't like it, change the laws. Rachael Maddow tried to make sensationalist news by revealing one year of his taxes returns that ended up showing he did indeed pay his fair share at a higher tax rate than most in his income bracket. Maybe the people here don't do their own taxes or even pay taxes because you would know if you did that there is no real information that would be revealed in a tax return. The financial statements that Trump has disclosed reveals a much broader and more pertinent scope of information. Trump supporters are obviously the Winners, and because of them everyone will end up benefiting from a new approach in our federal government that will finally be for the people, not the career politicians. People need to quit forming opinions based on 10-second news clips on the evening news and start listening to the facts, you will be amazed.
