Volksmarch, a noncompetitive 5K or 10K walk sponsored by the Falcon Wanderers Club of Colo. Springs. Free. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Leashed pets welcome. Early Morning Bird/Nature Walks at Sondermann Park. Meet at Beidleman Center parking lot, 7:40 W. Caramillo. Free. Wednesdays, Sept 11 and Oct. 9 at 7 a.m. Call 578-7088 for reservations.

Seventh annual Scale the Scar Hike at the quarry gate located near the 30th Street entrance to the Navigators Service Center. Registration fee: $15-$17.50 for adults & $10 kids. Sat., Sept. 14, registration at 8 a.m., hike at 8:30 a.m. For more, call 442-6949.

Monthly Public hikes at The Catamount Institute and adjoining Ranch Resource Protection Area. Bring warm clothing in layers, hiking boots, binoculars, notebook and pencil. Pre-register by calling 471-0910. Cost: $6, adults; $3, kids 12 and under. Sat., Sept. 14, 9 a.m. to noon.
