Re: “UPDATE: ATTN: Cyclists. Tell the city you want these bike lanes.

Attention motorist, the city has decided to reduce the capacity of Research Parkway, a road that is heavily congested with east-west (auto) traffic during many hours of the day in order to conduct an experiment. The end result is an increased risk of traffic accidents, backups at un-timed signal lights and a higher chance of road rage incidents (due to the created congestion). Bicyclist (which there are very few on Research) and pedestrians (which include a high number of school children) are at an increased risk do to the increased congestion levels (when accidents happen they often spill into adjacent spaces such as the new bike lane and existing cross walks). The city did not provide adequate acceleration/merge lanes for traffic turning onto Research from cross streets (you have to do a very dangerous wide right turn to join east bound Research from Rangewood) so the risk of accidents at those intersections has been increased. As this is a poorly planned experiment on the city's part the city should be held liable for any accidents that take place in this experiment zone. Please contact your city council representative and the mayors office to let them know that you don't appreciate the increased risk and the reduced services offered by this poorly thought out experiment. I want my $10,000 back.
