"Religion and Politics"

When: Wed., March 9, 6 p.m. 2016
Price: Free

For a secular government, religion appears to have incredible influence on our politics. The pending presidential election is no exception, with candidates often being asked about their religion and the impact of faith on their politics. Some scholars, however, argue that the U.S. political system is swaying away from faith as an influence in political decisions. Surprised? If you find the notion conflicting, you'll want to check out Religion and Presidential Politics: The 2016 Race and Beyond, featuring Dartmouth professor and ordained Episcopal priest Randall Balmer. Balmer makes a compelling argument that today's religious voter is moving further and further from faith in their voting choices in favor of supporting a different ideology — political power and dominance. No matter your level of political engagement, this is sure to be a relevant and fascinating examination of the upcoming elections. 6 p.m., UCCS Centennial Auditorium, 1420 Austin Bluffs Pkwy., free, events.uccs.edu. — Bridgett Harris
