Re: “War and society, anti-fracking votes, health care, and more

Regarding the letter titled “Anti-fracking victories,” the fact remains that hydraulic fracturing has been practiced in Colorado safely for decades. Over this time, this process has proved to be a safe means of extracting natural gas – which is key to achieving freedom from foreign oil. Regarding this strong environmental track record, it’s important to point out that after more than one million well projects nationwide, there is not a single incident of groundwater contamination related to hydraulic fracturing - a fact that is confirmed by the EPA. In addition, hydraulic fracturing is subject to rigorous standards and regulations at the federal, state and local levels, developed to ensure an environmentally sound approach. Opposition to hydraulic fracturing overlooks these facts, and prevents the progress of a valid, safe and scientific technique. It also puts a hold on the economic growth, including jobs, that results from energy development.
