Re: “Keeping up with Ken Burnley

@ValleyGirlAK. I'm not so sure you have your facts rights about all of us MSBSD teachers. He didn't pressure anyone into early retirement, it was a pretty hefty 'bonus' to do so and it did save jobs. In my personal opinion, the union is too greedy & power hungry to notice how they have impacted our school districts finances. Granted, the school board has made some horrid financial choices (custodian out-sourcing & rehiring) but the teacher salaries are having the largest impact on the budget. I make about twice the salary of other teachers in CO and don't get me started on the 'cadillac' health insurance plan. There are some tough decisions to make when you have to deal with a bad financial situation. A 7 period school day and early-retirement packages just don't seem all that evil when you consider the big picture. As for the Wasilla MS & HS principal hiring- I'm not so sure the reasons of what happened, there is a lot of politics at play there but he did act within permitted hiring practices. The superintendent does have the final say. Now that I've said my bit, let this man RIP. He was a kind soul and did care about his teachers whether you think so or not
