Local punk rock hero J.J. Nobody, of The Nobodys and Drag the River, and his dad, J.J. Senior, opened the Triple Nickel Tavern (the tavern part means they serve homemade food -- burgers, soups, even taquitos!) the weekend before Christmas.

Housed below Holey Rollers at 26 S. Wahsatch Ave., in the space that previously has held a record store, Mexican restaurants, nail salons and countless other random businesses, the Triple Nickel Tavern has more promise than anything to hit the block in a decade. J.J. Junior explains that after touring for so many years, he's seen a lot of venues and knows what he wants: simply, a bar (no DJs or karaoke, he insists), with some occasional rockin' live music.

The Triple Nickel's two rooms are separated by an ancient freezer door that effectively will soundproof the music area, keeping the main bar area safe for the people who want to throw a few back (or have a burger) while conversing. For those who have been yearning for a real neighborhood bar where they can drink, eat, hang out and listen to music, The Triple Nickel is sure to provide a good home. Give the J.J.s a call at 477-9555 to learn more, or to book your band for a show.
