L.A. power-poppers Run Run Run bring their sartorial - prowess to the Nickel on May 8.
  • L.A. power-poppers Run Run Run bring their sartorial prowess to the Nickel on May 8.

I know this isn't going to help you much if you forgot to grab this rag on Thursday, and I am sorry to not have mentioned this show sooner, but tonight (or last night, or whatever night Thursday, the first of May, turns out to be for you) the indie-jazz croon-jammers, Posis, will be beating The Black Sheep drum along with the likes of Buffalo Beard (fresh off the SXSW stage), the indie folk duo known as Leftmore, and quite possibly the greatest country blues "family" act since the Carters picked up a Cash ... The Haunted Windchimes! Also on May 1 (sorry!), Insufficyent Funds, who just celebrated their first official CD release, a hefty self-titled chunk of post-Cobain grunge, will be jamming pearls to the always enthusiastic Union Station crowd. But hold tight to yer knickers, mate: The Invisible Now, The Silver Cord and Never Fade Away, will have their way with you as well.

And, so as to not leave you hanging again next week, Thursday, May 8, Los Angeles indie-poppers Run Run Run, are going to rock rock rock the Triple Triple Triple Nickel Nickel Nickel. The four dapper lads, with fancy names like Xander and Francisco, lay down some catchy tunes in a Hot Hot Killers kind of way. Local Casio-tickler Poly Jane is getting it all warmed up along with Denver lounge-punks ManApes, but as the show is for consenting adults only, all you youngins will have to catch Run Run Run one night the previous, Wednesday, May 7. They're tentatively slated to play theFactore (903 Yuma St.).

If you got metal in your blood and blood on your metal, then Friday night is looking real good. You can catch some serious hell at the Rocket Room when DJ Dave (dude, you gotta come up with a catchier name) spins the choicest of 80s metal cheese and sleaze. (Also slated to appear live are Smaug and Hellstrum, two of CSpgz sickest doomsday-bringers.)

Or, if you find yourself, for whatever reason, down in Cañon City on Friday, hit up McClellan's Grill & Brewing Co. (413 Main St., Cañon City), and get a somewhat perplexing, but very, very metal start to the annual Music and Blossom Festival with Step to Every Pit, KnukLHead and Sanguine Addiction. And that leads quite nicely into this little nugget ...

The very next night, at the very same place (Saturday at McClellan's), there is a spectacular band called Porter playing. I have written about them before. They are great. Anyhow, they rarely play outside of B.F.E., so you may have to make a particular effort to see them. But it would be well worth it to do so, especially if you like slightly experimental and progressive psychedelic bluegrass.

Other highlights for the week include garage-punk insanity with The Nicotine Fits!, The Omens and quiet bang bang on Saturday at the Rocket Room Be Thou My Vision is playing Saturday at WeUsOur Artist's Market and a wicked rad band called We Versus the Shark, out of some insignificant place called Athens, Ga., will be at the Rocket Room on Sunday with Eyes Caught Fire and Abracastabya.

We Versus the Shark's latest donations for downloads release Murmurmur (quoteunquoterecords.com) pays homage to such legendarily overlooked acts as Scratch Acid and Television, but only delivers one track a month.

Nice trick, fellas, but if you think youre the first musicians to play other peoples songs and beg for money, well ... sheet ...

I will smell that one on the B-side!

I think I owe it to the readers, the bands, and most importantly, to my family, to get off my damn throne, and let somebody else wear the crown for a while.
