In his own special way, Jim Heath, better known as the Reverend Horton Heat, has continually evolved over the past three decades: The velvet-suited, Gretsch-wielding frontman started out doing his best approximation of rockabilly, went on to put a Texas spin on primal psychobilly, and subsequently got all honky-tonk with under-recognized classics like “Just Let Me Hold My Paycheck” and “Please Don’t Take the Baby to the Liquor Store.” In a couple months, he’ll be taking to the road with Junior Brown on the promisingly titled Reverend Horton Heat’s Holiday Hayride. But why wait until then, when you can just cruise down, up or over to Fountain and catch his band’s headlining appearance on the closing day of Colorado’s greatest gathering of smoking wheels, pinup girls and real-life rockabilly cool? Other musical acts who’ll be performing this Friday and Saturday include The Atomic Drifters, The AquaSonics Surf Band, Reno Divorce, Whiskey Kiss and Hillbilly Casino.
