Re: “Deal with this

The blame for this snafu does not rest with Fischer. It rests with Jerry Heimlicher and others in city leadership who approved a convoluted and risky deal, with too many moving pieces and too tight a timeline. Blame will also rest with City Attorney Pat Kelly, for giving the city lousy advice on the legality of what it is doing here. The first USOC deal imploded because it was poorly-conceived and hastily-approved. That was ultimately council's fault. This one may implode because the city was trying to pull something illegal and a smart citizen and good man called them on it. That will also be council's fault. Heimlicher's attempt to shift blame from council's shoulders to a lone citizen's shoulders is pathetic, but all-to-typical of the attitude on this arrogant city council. This group has been a disaster, on everything from the stormwater tax to the 1a campaign to the two USOC debacles. Now they are about to get shot down again, on their overambitious tax grab. But instead of stepping up and taking responsibility, they blame everyone else. Amazing.
