Re: “Letters

August 15,2009.

The following letter is not endorsed by my employer and the opinion is mine and mine alone.

Dear Sirs:
I have been a loyal reader of your fine publication since I picked up the first issue.I respect the way you tell it "the way it is" and don't candy coat it,because that is what the public wants to hear.I am aware that your paper believes in exercising your "1st" amendment rights, and so do I.For the past six years I have bit my tongue and kept my opinion about your "Best Of The Springs" to myself.I have one question concerning the "Best Of Winners".Are they actually voted on by the public in real ballots,or are they determined by the "Dollars" spent on advertising in your paper? Case in point-A certain liquor store has been given the "Gold" award for best beer selection ever since you started the category, and I am very suspicious about the results.I have visited all the major liquor stores in
Colorado Springs, and I have made several observations concerning their selections of beer. The larger ones that I have visited include:"Cheers Liquor Mart","Coaltrain Liquor store,"Colorado Liquor Outlet" and "Springs Liquor Outlet".From my observations I rate the liquor stores as far as "Best Beer Selection" as-(1) Springs Liquor Outlet (2) Colorado Liquor Outlet (3) Cheers Liquor Mart and #(4)Coaltrain Liquor. The thing that strikes me is that "Springs Liquor Outlet" and "Colorado Liquor Outlet" have almost double the beer selection as "Cheers Liquor Mart" or "Coaltrain Liquor",but have never cracked the top three in your voting.I am curious on the outcome of this years voting and will
follow it closely.

Sincerely Yours,
A concerned citizen.

Re: “Letters

Dear Indy:
"I am a long time reader and first time writer".I have been a reader of yours ever since
the first issue, and Thursday is "Indy day".For years I have always wanted to post a
letter, but somehow other things have come up,and the thought vanished. But something
last night just pushed my buttons, and I needed to talk about it.I have never been a fan
of "American Idol" television show, and last nights show isn't helping the cause. They had
a video segment of how they are helping third world countries with the money that they
have raised. They are spending millions of dollars on providing the people of third world
countries with mosquito nets for their beds to prevent malaria. That all well and fine, but
don't we have children here in the United States starving and living on the street!"Who do
you think the majority of those 50 million votes are being called in by?There are kids
out there using cell phones that most of the time don't have food to eat."I'd like to buy
a clue for $500.00 Alex."Then they brought out a teenager who they taught a song to,
dressed up,and flew all the way over here to perform for us,What did that accomplish ?
It just shows me that they care more about ratings than helping the people who really
need it.Just a suggestion "American idol"change you name to "Third World Idol"!

Yours truly
Rick Wagner
