Re: “Of dogs, climate and firearms

Quit your "sage" grousing, Robert. Most folks are far less worried about tyrannical government then about some wingnut with an assault weapon- on whatever crusade- running amuck killing the innocent.

Re: “El Paso County puts conditions on accepting refugees

Packs,
I have to admit I was wrong. It was just another citizen exercising his god-given rights under the Second Amendment.

Re: “El Paso County puts conditions on accepting refugees

Packs-
Hate to speculate this soon, but that’s probably a radicalized Muslim fundamentalist extremist -wanting to inflict sharia law on us- who has already shot cops and is holed up in the Planned Parenthood building. In all likelihood he is a Syrian refugee as well.

Re: “Sandy Hook conspiracy theorists cry censorship

Brian Terry died due to government ineptitude.

No one would need to get the gun back from Roof if the law prohibited it from being issued before a background check was complete. Thank fear of the NRA for that.

Modernity is a problem for many- if not most- religions. Their very essence is incompatible with reason and human progress.

Re: “Sandy Hook conspiracy theorists cry censorship

Packs-It was not just a simple clerical error that allowed the terrorist, Roof, to acquire the weapon. It was the NRA –driven law that mandates expediency (three days) over common sense protection (get the report first) of our citizens. The government, through its NRA –bought politicians, is complicit in allowing this terrorist to acquire a weapon and assassinate people in their church.

The Tsarnaev’s did not come to the U.S. as refugees; rather they arrived on a tourist visa and later sought asylum.

Your real problem seems to be “what happens when you allow Muslims to overrun your country.” To suggest that all Muslims “live by taqiyya, refuse to assimilate and seek our destruction” is illustrative of nativist xenophobia and not reality.

This is all too reminiscent of the Chinese Exclusion Act, Executive Order 9066 (Japanese Internment), the Indian Removal Act, Jim Crow Laws, SS St. Louis etc., etc. So let’s not get too caught up in portraying an unalloyed beneficence in America’s treatment of the “other.” Doing the right thing with the Syrian refugees we helped to create would show we have learned something from past failures to do so.

Well, so we have, but I appreciate an intelligent, civilized discussion. I seldom engage on the internet because it too often devolves into a name calling session.

Your ability to ascertain the current permissibility of possessing the semi-AR15, but not the M-16, based on Coke’s Elizabethan norms is quite a display of legerdemain.

Perhaps we can just agree to disagree.

Re: “Sandy Hook conspiracy theorists cry censorship

Dave- If the intent is to protect citizens from their democratically elected government, then at present everything up to and including nuclear weapons would need to be accessible to any private citizen who wanted them. That said, I’m glad that we can agree that there are limits. Although, considering your analogy, when wrenches are outlawed, only…
