Re: “Letters

In reference to the letter about storing ammunition separately from weapons and not having loaded guns in the house, the reason for such legislation is that there are way too many accidents. In the area where I live, there have been several in the past year. The most recent one occurred when one boy got his father's loaded shotgun and started playing with it. It fired and literally blew off his brother's head. The parents weren't home at the time. This sort of thing happens way too often.

Re: “Letters

I don't understand the attitudes of some homeschooling advocates that people who choose to send their children to regular school instead of teaching them at home are somehow making them suffer or crushing their individuality. The truth is going to school is a way to prepare them for adulthood. They will have to learn to deal with other people who don't like them, take advantage of them, and stab them in the backs. Homeschooled children don't get that kind of exposure when all they associate with are children of like-minded parents. Many grow up naively believing that everybody is their friend. School is a way of preparing them for future jobs where there is favoritism, jealousy, office politics, cheating, lying, and sucking up. Children need to learn that not everybody in the world is like their parents, who genuinely care about their welfare. They have to learn that there is a big bad world out there and how to live in it.
