Re: “Betty Beedy reincarnated

Regarding the comment of how wonderful Fethullah Gulen is alleged to be, see today's article in Der Spiegel http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/…

"Why has the country now put 68 journalists behind bars and why do Turkey's press associations describe an atmosphere that calls to mind the era of Joseph McCarthy's Communist witch-hunts?"

"The AKP may have been especially upset about Sik's research into the Fethullah G├╝len movement, an Islamic network he believes has penetrated the country's security apparatus, which in turn further strengthened the conviction on the part of the AKP's opponents that the party has remained truer to its Islamist roots than it pretends."

Colorado Springs Independent, please make sure you really understand which side more closely resembles McCarthyism before you publish your reports.

Also, Colorado Springs Independent journalists, enjoy your freedom to write what you want here in the US while supporting the Gulen Movement, which is destroying press freedom in Turkey. That makes a lot of sense.

Re: “Betty Beedy reincarnated

The refusal on the part of journalists Chet Hardin and Rich Tosches to examine the evidence regarding the connection of over a hundred operating US charter schools with the Gulen Movement, as well as the evidence that this worldwide Movement does use its schools to recruit select students, reflects very poorly on this newspaper.

They could have made an excellent story out of this by criticizing Littleton's unfounded accusations about Obama while noting that she is correct about these schools being connected to Gulen, and that there are legitimate concerns. Instead, they have been blinded by their desire to attack Littleton and have lost all objectivity.

Surely they could find enough material to criticize Littleton without twisting the facts.

Sadly, the ultimate consequence of this sloppy journalism is going to be a decline in the reputation of the Colorado Springs Independent. In fact this paper has done Peggy Littleton a huge favor. It's hard to grasp why this paper insists on shooting itself in the foot and handing gifts to its opponents on silver platters.

It's very unfortunate and disappointing. Journalists should never put ideology ahead of sound research.
