Nelson Rufran has announced the fourth location for his Manitou Springs-based pizzeria, Ruffrano’s Hell’s Kitchen Pizza. It’ll be in the former Kwik Inn (also previously known as Kennedy’s Kwik Inn and Dad’s Kwik Inn), at 385 Main St. in Security-Widefield.

“The building is a Security icon,” says Rufran. “I started talking to the owner and his brother in 2015. We actually made the deal in late 2015... and I did all the title work in 2016.”

He recalls his parents stopping by the Kwik Inn’s drive-thru for ice creams when he was a child. And since the drive-thru remains in place, he intends to put it to use, selling coffee and ice cream to-go.

“I’m just going to keep doing that, because that’s what the Kwik Inn used to do,” he says, acknowledging that he’s still doing the homework on coffee sourcing. As for the ice cream, he’ll be offering soft-serve, hard-serve and gelato, likely working with a friend whose ice cream shop he’s declined to name for now.

There’s still renovation work to do, but Rufran hopes to have the new spot open before year’s end.
“It’s an old building,” he explains. “It needed a lot of work. I’m thinking nobody did any work on this building for probably 50 years.”

He also hints that this won’t be the last new Ruffrano’s Hell’s Kitchen — he hopes that this spot’s success will help him start expanding his pizza business northward.
