To be clear, Rustlers is the in-house eatery for Hotel Eleganté. Our visit is prompted by whispers of a somewhat recent change in chefs, though the receptionist has no idea, and management hasn’t answered our phone calls as of press time. Whatever’s happening, though, the lunch special looks pretty affordable — $9 for a couple-bucks-discounted entrée with drink and side. Though the $2 upcharge for french fries mystifies, we’ve made the drive, so we give it a shot.

We opt for house-made chips to accompany a Southwestern chicken wrap, typically $10.95 with side. The filling satisfies, with moist chicken meeting black beans, pickled jalapeños, tomato and a chipotle aioli. It’s a shame mine comes so loosely wrapped that it falls apart the moment I try to pick it up. Fork-and-knife job aside, the chips are thick enough to assist without going floppy.
