Re: “Fishing for answers

"Pave paradise and put up a parking lot!" That seems to be the motto of the "Stormwater Enterprise" (from the same people that we have come to know and love as Colorado Springs Utilities, who's motto is "Lets suck the water out of Ruxton Creek and keep everyone off the South Slope"). We have endured the "war on terror" and the "war on drugs" but what we have here is the "war on nature" spearheaded by our own SWE and CSU. Oh, where have all the flowers gone...Hell, where have all the cottonwoods gone?? Where has all the water gone? Isn't it interesting that we can have viable trout habitat in Fountain Creek in Manitou but when it gets into Colorado Springs it has to become another of their concrete ditchs? As anyone who has been here more than a month knows, the danger of Gold Hill Toxins has nothing to do with floods, it has been leeching down because of rain. Those fabulous vertical ribs of ravines ran from the top of the heap to the bottom. That is not done by Fountain Creek flooding. Besides, they can have their flood control measures at the 100 year flood level, and still let the creek be a creek, Pueblo seems totally capable of doing that with the Arkansas River while maintaining a viable fish habitat at the same time. We could even have a bike/walking trail next to it...(Just how bad off are we that we think of Pueblo as a standard we strive toward!) Its time these knuckheads at SWE and CSU stopped seeing utility and conservation as mutually exclusive alternatives. Duh, guess what? You can have both.
