Section 8 voucher program applications reopen for lottery

  • Colorado Springs Housing Authority

Struggling to find a place or make rent? Section 8 — the federally funded housing voucher program — can help, but only if you manage to actually access it, which is no easy task since the wait list is long and closed. But, there's a chance to try.

Between 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, and 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, you can apply online at csha.us (you cannot apply in person). According to a press release from the administering agency, Colorado Springs Housing Authority, applications accepted during that time frame will get a lottery number. Then, if vouchers become available, they go to applicants in order of those randomly assigned numbers. After a year, applicants who didn't get selected off the wait list need to reapply. Also online, find the eligibility requirements, translation for Spanish speakers and accommodations for people with disabilities.
