Re: “JFK and Catholicism, Obamacare and more

Ms. Fletcher

"...mandated to buy health insurance are not complaining about having to pay for homeowner's insurance, auto insurance, etc."

The government does not require mortgage insurance, home owner insurance, or any other property insurance. The mortgager does as a condition of a loan. If you pay cash, you have the freedom to be stupid and not insure your investment.

You are not required to carry comprehensive insurance on your car. The finance company requires it as a condition of the loan. If your house or vehicle is owned outright, you do not have to insure it.

Liability insurance IS required to insure that one person's stupid or negligent act is at least somewhat covered. Yet, how many people are not responsible enough to carry liability insurance?

Obamacare is an ill conceived, government mandated intrusion in to my life. I have provided for my family's healthcare, and they now provide for themselves.

It's called personal responsibility.

Re: “Magpul's next move

Well, heck fire, I mites well join in on this here postin blog, an bein frum Arkansas I reckon I can fit in with tosches targitit awdeeyanse. You pritty much hit the nale on the hed, ceppin I aint got got no cats. I do have dogs, bout 15 I reckon. Plus 4 feral hogs I keep pinned up fer eatin.

So Tosches, that about sum up your sterotyping? I used to enjoy your obvious Dave Barry copycat articles, but this is about as funny as dental work sans anesthesia. You and your ilk care nothing about gun control, just people control.

So, now you have exercised your "right" to bloviate senselessly. You have used your "right" to annoy people, who in turn will exercise their right to no longer read your tripe. Apparently, you think "rights" are only applicable to what you believe. Sadly, apparently half of the population feels the same.

Re: “The new era of conspiracy thinking

Methinks Mr. Dyer, with his specific smearing of Fox News, and throwing in Palin, Paul, and Bachmann for good measure shows me that he should remove the word journalist from his list of credits. Another left wing shill. By the way, cupcake, I don't hate Barack Obama because he is black, and apparently a large number of white people don't. I hate his politics. Ergo, I hate yours as well.

There will always be over the top maniacs such as McVeigh et. al. I should know, working at a state hospital. Most of the heinous crimes perpetrated on people by our patients (decaps, dismembers, etc.) were done without malice. The simply heard voices, God, you name it.

As for gun control, the one issue that is constantly overlooked is how many people with controlled mental illness can go looney toons when they stop taking their meds. Due to privacy laws, there is no database for those medicated folks, and with no prior record, they can buy guns. If you take a good look at the past mass murders, the common denominator is mental health. Newtown was the result of an idiot gun owner that left the shooter access to the guns. The shooter was known to be unstable.

Re: “Tragic lesson for all of us

I agree with you mostly, ProfT, however I personally believe that the act of breaking a window (and most probably reaching inside to unlock the door) would be sufficient to constitute entry. Were I that homeowner, I would have already been convinced that the person breaking into my home was not there to deliver a lottery check, and I feel I would have done the same thing. I do not believe all of the victims of home invasion took the time to interview the perpetrator to determine if they were simply robbing the wrong house, or had simply lost their way. I am sorry for the death, but we all make choices in our lives. Personal responsibility... what a concept.

Re: “Tragic lesson for all of us

While I usually find Tosches' Dave Barry-esque style entertaining and sometimes hilarious, I am disappointed in this anti-gun diatribe. A couple of things need clarification as well. Here you have a excessively drunken man, so, did he DRIVE himself to the wrong house or was he walking? DUI or Public Intoxication? Was the house that was broken into identical (right down to the last tree in the yard) to his own? Even intoxicated, I would submit that people capable of walking can recognize their own house without having to look at the address. And, if was so dark as the man could not see the house (no streetlights?), how was he able to read the address that is difficult to find and read in the daylight? The article alludes that the young man was actively involved in the church, going on missionary tripps, etc. Why would such a religious individual get so rip roaring drunk he couldn't find his own house? I deeply regret the loss of life, and regret what the violated homeowner will go through for the rest of his/her life. Tragic accident? Perhaps. Good kid gets hammered and grows horns in his drunken stupor? Perhaps. Regardless, there is still a lot of not so innocent morons out there, and if one breaks into my home while I am there, they will be introduced to Mr. Beretta. It is my right to defend myself. I invite you all to go to the following website. I think you will find it interesting.
