Crack a can of ... Merlot?!
How dare they? Wine in a can? Are these Catalans crazy?

Barcelona, Spain-based Syriaca Wine Company recently started distributing four-packs of 250-ml cans (about two glasses per can) of red and white wine. According to a press release, "the brand's image design confers gravitas and solemnity."

(Insert, through explosive coughing, "Bullshit.")

The red wine consists of a Tempranillo and Merlot blend; the white is solely Xarel-lo grapes.

Who knows? It could grow to be the next screw-top revolution in the wine world. Visit syriacawine.com if you want to investigate for yourself.

The Wild bunch
The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey (3011 E. U.S. Hwy. 50, Cañon City) recently released its 2007 batch of Wild Cañon Harvest Wine, the product of the winery's crushing a variety of grapes brought in by local growers.

In this, the Harvest Wine's sixth year, 120 growers contributed 19 tons of grapes much more than in previous years. With this year's large harvest, GM Sally Cookson expects the wine to be available well into 2008.

The light, fruity and sweet wine, which retails around $11, pairs well with heavy holiday meals and can be purchased locally at Cheers Liquor Mart, Coaltrain Wine & Liquor and Wines of Colorado, as well as in the Cañon City tasting room. Call 877/422-9463 for more information.
