Re-fined cuisine

The business that was once Fine Vietnamese Cuisine at 4153 Centennial Blvd. is now Fine Asian Cuisine Vietnamese and Chinese Restaurant. Patrick Truong, brother of Saigon Cafe's Paul Truong and Lemongrass Bistro's Dang Truong, sold to one of Dang's former employees and her husband: Corazon and Albert Samuels III.

The Samuelses took over operation in early December, adding a Chinese food section to the already existing (and extensive) Vietnamese menu. Corazon says she's been working with Asian cuisine for more than 15 years and that she finally just decided to run her own restaurant "so I don't have to deal with other bosses."

Fitting that "Corazon" is Spanish for "heart."

Fine Asian Cuisine offers dine-in, take-out and delivery within four miles daily, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (lunch) and 3 to 9 p.m. (dinner) Monday through Friday, and from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 278-9388 for more.

Honor thine snow god

Want a good reason to drink? Like say, a city-sanctioned, Viking-themed, weeklong party honoring a mythical Norse deity of ski-friendly powder? The 45th annual Breckenridge Ullr Fest may be for you.

Running Jan. 6 through 11, the festival features odd events such as a frying pan toss, in addition to food happenings like a chili cook-off. There's also a bar series with nightly specials, and much more. Call 877/593-5260 or visit gobreck.com to get the skinny.

Early bird gets the chicken-fried steak

In case you didn't know, all restaurant owners love to get early rushes to keep their armies of line cooks, servers, bussers and hosts busy inside (polishing silverware, restocking, cleaning) rather than bored outside (smoke breaks, personal calls, uproarious sexual harassment).

Hence alluring deals like happy hours, and wise ideas like The Stagecoach Inn's new early bird special from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Your $10.99 buys a house salad starter and a choice between chicken-fried steak, fried chicken, buffalo pot roast, cedar plank salmon, sirloin steak or fish and chips, all with varying sides. Call 685-9400 for more information.
