Cajun in the lobby

Anyone who attended the 12th annual Restaurant Expo and Culinary Arts Show two months ago at The Broadmoor probably remembers a delicious blackened crawfish quesadilla. Well, last Sunday, the home of that dish, Thibodeaux's Bistro at Crowne Plaza Hotel (2886 S. Circle Drive), turned one month old.

The Cajun outfit is part of the Crowne Plaza's ongoing $12 million renovation. But, says food and beverage manager Maggie Howard: "We're an independent restaurant that happens to be located inside a hotel. We want to be available to the entire city."

According to Howard, the menu, helmed by longtime executive chef Larry Goodman, offers American classics to cater to the hotel demographic, but specializes in Cajun fare such as chicken and shrimp gumbo and crawfish touffe. Call 576-5900 for more.

A new Flavor

Flavors on Tejon, a breakfast and lunch eatery, will open Saturday, May 31 at 321 N. Tejon St., in the former location of the Tejon Street Market. Owners Joe and Sally Ierisi have prepared a diverse, gourmet menu that's largely an "embellished" throwback to a previous, similar business they operated for 20 years in downtown Fort Collins, called Joe's Fireside Caf.

"Breakfast and lunch was my niche in Fort Collins," says Joe. "It's a great niche."

Flavors' menu features everything from egg standbys, sweet toasts and breakfast cocktails to sandwiches, seafood items and wine and beer. Prices range from $5.95 to $14.95.

Flavors intends to host periodic wine dinners with the neighboring Tejon Street Wine Shop, and also to display local art. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday (breakfast only). Visit flavorsontejon.com or call 471-8400.

Pure disappointment
Talented chef David Sciple is heading back to Florida, as 13 Pure (217 E. Pikes Peak Ave.) has decided to end its gourmet lunch and dinner service. Co-owner Michael Laughlin speculates that Springs eaters still thought of the space as only a club.
