Slim Cessna’s Auto Club is a sure bet to ring in the new year

There’s always the question of how to ring in the new year. For my money, the annual New Year’s Eve bash held by Colorado legends Slim Cessna’s Auto Club is always a musical highlight of the whole year — the band’s combination of uproarious stage presence and consummate musicianship is a sure way to, depending on how you’re feeling, either send out the year in style or at least grant you a few hours of raucous fun before the oncoming Armageddon. (And, frankly, who could be more qualified than the group once described by Jello Biafra as “the country band that plays the bar at the end of the world”?)

This year’s shindig will be spread across three nights, Dec. 28, 29 and 31, at Denver’s Globe Hall. Each night will feature a different lineup of opening acts that include stripped-down Auto Club offshoot DBUK, “soft-gaze pop” act Midwife, the mysterious, folklore-steeped Munly & The Lupercalians, post-punk duo Voight, acclaimed Denver black metal band Wayfarer, and a solo set from Slim’s son George Cessna. (You can find out who plays which date at scacunincorporated.com.) Three-day passes are available and, to sweeten the deal even further, there will be barbecue.
