Re: “UPDATE, 7/9: Sheriff's race in full swing

Thank you CS Indy for offering a forum for those of us at the EPSO to voice our opinions. We work in a place that does not allow us to hold our boss accountable for his action or have a no confidence vote like CSPD did. A lot of people here appear to be supporting the Sheriff because they are afraid not to. The only way for us to hold our boss accountable is through the election process but unless we are there to support the Sheriff, we are told we can lose our jobs by getting involved. So far the Indy has pointed out several things that most voters would not know because most people who work here would never say anything for fear of losing their job.
The Sheriff kept an employee who was under felony indictment for an armed confrontation with Douglas County deputies.

The Sheriff promoted a woman who was not qualified for the job and almost doubled her salary. Many people here think more has gone on between them and some say they know so.

The Sheriff promoted a dispatcher that posed nude while having photos involving the office on her webpage.

The Sheriff kept a Sergeant whose ex-wife is the PIO even after the Sergeant was arrested for DV. The ex-DA who is the Sheriffs buddy, arranged some kind of plea bargain that got rid of the DV charge.

The Sheriff was present at some point with the ex-DA during his drinking spree that lead to his defeat in the last election but the Sheriff seems to have escaped anything negative.

Here are some things that have not been talked about but are just as shocking.

The Sheriff promoted his buddy who was disciplined twice for sexual harassment. One time, he was caught looking at the bare breasts of a woman who worked for him.

The Sheriff failed to arrest a female deputy after she took possession of narcotics delivered in the mail to her husband, even after the deputy opened the box and put the drugs away inside her house.

The Sheriff regularly shows up to Office events with alcohol on his breath. He is usually chewing gum or tobacco, but you can still smell the alcohol.

The Sheriff has fired a lot of people during his terms. Some of them deserved it but some of them did nothing more that the people he promoted. It all comes down to who you are, not what you do. The Sheriff got term limits overturned in the last election. The vote was so close that they had to do a recount. We hope the people of this county are paying attention and will not let this kind of conduct continue. We don’t know what kind of job Chief Shirk will do but from what we hear, at least he treats his people with respect.
