120 Days  - 120 Days  -  -  - Smalltown Supersound  -  -  - Sounds like: Speedometer-breaking drive - music -  - Short take: Space rock that rocks -  - "Just like cars on a highway, speeding through the - night," Ådne Meisfjord sings on "C-Musik," and this - is essentially the maxim of the Norwegian sextet 120 - Days  rushing, everywhere-all-at-once melodies build - and build out of fluid, atmospheric synths. 120 - Days is forward propulsion, its songs a series of - gear shifts up to oft-epic crescendos. There's often far - too much sound, but how often is that a detraction? - Every instrument, whether analog or digital, is fed back - ad infinitum, echoing and echoing. The elements - become so confused within one another that they - become a swirling mass of sound  like a sonic Oort - cloud, or more aptly, a night of northern lights in Troms. -  Matt Martin

The Six Parts Seven  - Casually Smashed to Pieces -  -  -  - Suicide Squeeze / Release date: Jan. - 23  -  - Sounds like: Online poker-playing background - music -  - Short take: Instrumental indie rock for the - Pitchfork crowd -  - Limitations of instrumental rock aside, the Kent, Ohio- - based band The Six Parts Seven has released another - engaging album filled with earnest moments and - textured details that mirror the universal sensibilities of - everyday living. That's not to say the group has created a - soundtrack for mundane minutiae, but instead an aural - script for the highs and lows of emotions. "Stolen - Moments" is tenuously upbeat, while "Falling Over - Evening" possesses an earnest uncertainty, and "Awaiting - Elemental Meltdown" is melancholic at heart. The album - runs together and often sounds redundant, but you get - the sense the members of The Six Parts Seven care less - about cohesiveness and more about the spirit of the - moment.  John Benson

    Limitations of instrumental rock aside, the Kent, Ohio- based band The Six Parts Seven has released another engaging album filled with earnest moments and textured details that mirror the universal sensibilities of everyday living. That's not to say the group has created a soundtrack for mundane minutiae, but instead an aural script for the highs and lows of emotions. "Stolen Moments" is tenuously upbeat, while "Falling Over Evening" possesses an earnest uncertainty, and "Awaiting Elemental Meltdown" is melancholic at heart. The album runs together and often sounds redundant, but you get the sense the members of The Six Parts Seven care less about cohesiveness and more about the spirit of the moment. John Benson

LCD Soundsystem  - 45:33  -  -  - iTunes  -  - Sounds like: A brass band hijacking a club -  - Short take: The Treadmill Opus -  - Nike's marketing division has outdone itself this time: In - association with iTunes, it's commissioned dance grouch - and DFA Records producer James Murphy to come up - with a running mix designed to get people off their duffs - to, er, just do it. 45:33 may be its best - marketing coup yet: Put to the test, it moves as most - DFA remixes do, all jazzy and rambunctious, and varied - enough to keep moving while entrenched in house - bumping and pumping in a kind of expected propulsion. - It's more sum than parts, this mix, combining sounds - like a jigsaw puzzle, fitting seemingly incongruous - pieces into a whole. And when the pieces don't work, - Murphy jams them in anyway, until they do. It drives. -  Matt Martin
