Re: “Building America, without creating jobs?

Customers should know that there is an estimated $150 million savings associated with the purchase of Front Range Power, as reported by the Indy in May 2010 -- http://www.csindy.com/colorado/150-million…

Re: “Utilities considers committing to 'cleaning' technology

Actually, it costs much less to generate electricity using coal compared to natural gas. Even now when natural gas prices are relatively low historically, coal is the less-expensive alternative. Additionally, natural gas prices are much more volatile than coal prices.

Along with adding more renewables, Colorado Springs Utilities plans to increase our use of natural gas-fired generation in the coming years. However, switching entirely to natural gas generation would increase our customers' electric rates considerably.

Regarding mapping: The detail required to map our infrastructure dictates that we, in collaboration with other local governmental entities, periodically contract for mapping flights. Collaborating with the City and County is the most cost efficient way to meet our needs and, by having greater accuracy than can be provided by Google maps, we save time and money as our crews work to improve and maintain electric, natural gas, water and wastewater services in our community.

Re: “Dying Tree City USA

And I've heard that Colorado Springs Utilities is putting together a plan to help the community with watering parks more efficiently. They've long encouraged water conservation and they can help implement new technology and practices that will help the City water the parks within their budget. Sounds good -- savings to help now and for years to come!
