Re: “UPDATE: Joel Miller: Why Collins shouldn't be censured

The level of paranoia and delusional self-importance displayed in would-be Mayor Joel Miller's missive is exceeded only by the slavish parroting of would-be council member and all-around crackpot Kanda Calef in her comment below. Witch hunt? Really, Kanda? You and Joel and your modest gang of foil hats and fringe dwellers may see hero and heroine in Doug and Helen, but the rest of us just see Bonnie and Clyde. (Except, sub in Abbott and Costello for Beatty and Dunaway.)

Re: “Let the electoral games overlap

Speaking of fact checking, what WAS that issue with Corporal Kingerschnitzel's "PhD"? Maybe some of his other purported degrees, too? And to think that, in the first place, it was issued by a fringe diploma mill like "Regent University" (formerly the "Christian Broadcasting Network University"—not making that up).

Re: “UPDATE: Ethics complaint against Collins released

Show him a victim? I'd like to show him a jail cell—him and his half-wit, crackpot gal pal on City Council. I trust they'll get their soon enough.

Re: “Councilor proposes banning severance pay

What a hoot! This thing has Doug Bruce's ham-handed paw prints all over it—and even self-styled sleuth Pam Zubeck doesn't pick up on it (or chooses not to). Pam, your own newspaper was reporting just in the last election how Collins and others were part of Doug "Don King" Bruce's political stable (see:…). They were his operatives. Let's be honest here: Helen Collins couldn't find her way out of a pay toilet. Yet, she came up with this brilliantly booby-trapped doomsday device all by herself? Right! This thing goes way beyond severance pay. It's yet another of Doug's attempts to hobble City Hall. One-termer Steve Bach is already history, yet just to poke the soon-to-be-former mayor in the eye, Collins (Bruce) would saddle us for generations with this turkey of a policy, with all sorts of hidden gotchas. It's vintage Bruce! Council stooges like Collins and Joel Miller are nothing more than finger puppets for interests that want to paralyze city government. Pam, dig deeper. You can do a lot better than to regurgitate this nonsense.

Re: “City spends big on separation; new form of government brings new costs

For the I-had-to-laugh file: "Meanwhile, Council more than doubled its staff and operational budget from 2010 to 2014, due to its need for staff when it can't turn to the mayor's for support." Oh, please! Pam, don't buy into Keith King's poppycock about how he had to grow government because he can't rely on the mayor's staff. Even if we accept that former City Atty. Chris Melcher was biased toward the mayor and an unreliable source of legal advice for the council, the reality is that most of the time the council's need for support staff involves non-controversial issues. In truth, Council "President" Keith King is just trying to build his own empire! He wants to match the mayor's minions with more of his own! Ironically, when he does get to juice in his own appointees, they're incompetent leftover hacks from King's days at the Capitol. (See: George Culpepper.)

Re: “Council fails to override Bach's veto

Impromptu civics lesson for Councilman Miller: It doesn't matter if you "see interim as part of the title"—if in fact the law says you don't get to confirm the appointment. And you don't. See, that's why it's called an interim position. Just like the governor can appoint acting department heads in the state's exec. branch w/o legislative approval. Unless, of course, you're more important than the legislature. Which maybe you are.

Re: “UPDATE: Mayor vetoes Council ordinance on interim appointees

Why does council want to meddle in the mayor's hiring? For all of Steve Bach's rep for being a pushy guy, it sounds more like Keith King is the one who is grabbing for power in this case.
