How about kicking off the new year with some metal? Friday, Jan. 5, finds the Black Sheep hosting Los Angeles-based hardcore/thrash crossover act Momentum on their winter tour, joined by Texas’ Creeping Death, Denver’s Lockjaw and locals Deter. Momentum’s tour poster might claim that the Black Sheep is located in Denver, but, you know, that’s fine. We’re not mad. In fact, we’re actually laughing right now.

The genre-smashing, Victor-based quartet Cloud Temple, who have teased the arrival of a new record during the past month, play the Black Sheep on Saturday, Jan. 6, joined by fellow travelers Creatures of Habit and Goat Cheese Soup. This one’s a must if you’re into live painting during breakdowns. (Yes, Cloud Temple’s lead singer paints during instrumental passages.)

Finally, at the Triple Nickel Tavern on Sunday, Jan. 7, you can get another helping of the loud stuff with Colorado/Wyoming’s stoic., Wyoming’s Euth, somewhere else’s Ultraviolet, and hometown heroes Tigerwine. The show serves as a West Coast tour kickoff for Euth and stoic., and will also be stoic.’s final show in Colorado Springs before the band goes on an indefinite hiatus.

Elsewhere, here are some notable shows taking place across Colorado in the weeks ahead:
