Re: “What it was really like ... in one family

Moonbeam: I find it absolutely amazing that previously homeschooled adults --who have not been parents themselves, can even pretend to understand the experiences of parents with children who are being home schooled -- even if they believe they're the only ones on the planet with an imagination or the ability to think, observe and understand. You say, "Bottom line--no matter how much a homeschooled parent tries to understand that experience, they never will unless they themselves were homeschooled." What are you comparing your home school experience to -- the conventional classroom? Being home schooled is not synonymous with being a traumatized prisoner of war who discovers the cure for cancer with a match stick and a bowl of rice. Now there's something only that person could understand. My wife was home schooled and my children are now home schooled. It's not an easy thing to do, but it is done for a reason and that reason outweighs the terribly unique experience you seemed to have had. Did you parents school you in a Vietnamese prison cell? I'll go out on a limb here and say that though I was not home schooled, I understand it quite well. Steve
