After a barrage of hail clogged storm sewers and flooded homes in August 2016, some residents felt forgotten.

On May 18, the city kicked off a stormwater control project in the Little Shooks Run area affected by the storm, thanks to a measure approved by voters on April 4 that allowed the city to keep $12 million in excess revenue from 2016 and 2017.

The $520,000 project will address flooding by installing larger inlets on Logan Street between Platte Avenue and Bijou Street, making other improvements between Cedar Street and Hancock Avenue, and by upgrading systems upstream to prevent flooding in Little Shooks Run.
