Moderately mysterious in origin and wholly hypnagogic, Pineapple White Fire is an Indica-heavy hybrid of Pineapple and White Fire OG, but its effects go well beyond the normal low-key sleepy high of most Indicas and instead move toward something interstellar and heady — upside down almost.

See, Pineapple is one of those strains that just shoots the stress right out of you, which is nice but leaves you vulnerable, while White Fire OG (which fuses Fire OG and The White) is a partial Sativa that keeps you active and brainy even as it floors you. So it’s a high that makes you feel like a very active brain in a jar or something, vibrating ideas. The high is heavy, like an elephant, or to steal a really good phrase from Les Rallizes Dénudés: “heavier than a death in the family.” My experiences with Pineapple White Fire were, well, a little terrifying, belying its Sailor Moon-esque name, its sugary taste, and its almost dirty blond surfer hair coloration.
Two nights in a row I smoked some, and as I slowly melted into sleep, I endured a sustained swirl of night terrors with a sleep paralysis epilogue. The first part was a montage of bad vibes: being chased, being in stressful situations, both high-stakes (uprising-like street violence) and low-stakes (just sitting on a plane waiting to take off), a few scenes where I was just standing somewhere feeling guilty or generally fucked up but unsure why. Each scenario, which like a lot of dreams was more feeling than a tangible thing to describe (like in one I was just in a car but it felt like I was about to go rob a bank or something), would rapidly cut off at the moment it was about to get really bad. Then the terror would reset and I’d be sleeping but also looking at my empty apartment and then an MTV-style cut would send me into another dream and a new terrible
scenario would start to foment.

Finally, it all peaked with a moment where I was again back in my apartment, but sitting near a bookshelf was this dude, whose upper body was really long and tall and he was sitting there, his back facing me, Jesus Christ was it terrible. I don’t even know what to do with that one. I experience sleep paralysis and night terrors pretty frequently (I never have pleasant dreams) so I’m maybe especially susceptible (and generally, smoking helps me with night terrors) but what Pineapple White Fire unleashed seems like one of those truly bonkers variables worth noting. I also mention it because if the combination of smoking this and falling asleep does this to you too, there is a way in which it’s a wild trip and you may enjoy it the way some people enjoy roller coasters.
