Re: “Life takes Visa

There are so many problems with this story. First, because the state only does a count once a year, unlike other states that do it twice a year...schools have one chance to get funding. Therefore, many schools offer their students incentives to be in school on this one particular day. Cesar Chavez is NOT the only school implementing incentives like this. Yet Pueblo School District continues to call the media and legislators and blow the whistle on this one school. The funny part is...Pueblo School District itself often offers incentives to students in its district. I'd love for the media to look into that a little bit...they would be surprised at what they find. Pueblo school district refers to Cesar Chavez as the competition. It claims it is luring kids away from district schools. Um...Cesar Chavez IS a district school. It is a public school, in Pueblo School District. These kids are public school kids IN Pueblo School District. The School District signed the charter contract that allowed Cesar Chavez Academy into their district. Yet they turn around and play the victim at every opportunity. They should focus more on taking care of the best interests of ALL of their public school kids..including those in public charter schools. It's not like Cesar Chavez is pulling kids out of public schools into a private school. The district is creating an us against them mentality with its charter schools. Charters offer students additional choices in public school education. Pueblo School District should embrace this and market the fact that they can offer parents more options. I'm surprised that the media has continued to tell one side of this story and hasn't looked a little closer at the practices of Pueblo School District.
