Re: “Starting a new life, with hope

Yes, it is a great story. If only it were completely true....which it is not. I know Matt and I know his family. Yes, Matt is on the right track now and yes, it is because of Urban Peak. They deserve much of the praise and all the support they can get. Matt was a straight A student for several years and then found drugs and alcohol. He got angry and violent. He went to jail several times. Once as a juvenile. His mom bailed him out so he could finish high school, even though Matt was violent toward the whole family. The article was true about him walking in to a garage. Yes, he went back to jail for that and his mom decided it was best if he stayed there to learn his lesson. Tough love. This was very hard for her. How could she let her son stay in jail? But it was the best thing she could have ever done. She went to all his court appearances, got his charges lowered and put him on the waiting list for Urban Peak. Matt got his GED while in jail. Way to go Matt! When he got out of jail, Matt's grandparents took him in for a bit until a slot opened up at The Peak. Matt is a very bright kid and I believe he is on the right track now. His mom constantly raves about Urban Peak and what they have done for her son. But I know for a fact that the time he served in jail was good for him. I saw Matt several times after he got out of jail and before he entered Urban Peak. He was like his old self, before the drugs took him away. He was happy and kind again, and very sorry for what he had put his family through. He even said his mom was right for leaving him in jail. Not wanting him to slip back to his old ways, his mom knew she could not let Matt come back home. He needed a fresh start and additional support. That's why she placed him in Urban Peak. They keep him on the straight and narrow. He has to take drug tests to stay there, which is good. They have helped him with a grant for college. Urban Peak does so much for the kids there, it is utterly amazing. But to say they were his only support system is very much untrue. Matt....I am very, very proud of you. Keep up the good work! And to everyone else....nothing is ever as black and white as it appears.
