Texas Hippie Coalition’s Big Dad Ritch is an indisputably big man with a big vision, one that has most likely been expanded by personal experimentation with his band’s psychotropic acronym. Since childhood, the Denison, Texas, denizen has consistently flown his outlaw-metal freak flag high, fueled by an ongoing obsession with Nazareth, ZZ Top, Clutch and Pantera. The inevitable result is that THC crowd favorites like “Pissed Off and Mad About It” and “Damn You to Hell” boast a mutt-like mix of Southern rock, metallic blues and serious fun. Ten years into their recording career, it’s still not hard to imagine the larger-than-life frontman and his cohorts being hailed as the logical heirs to Lynyrd Skynyrd, something that may well be happening in some parallel universe as we speak.
