Thanksgiving Day

When: Thu., Nov. 28 2013

It's said the average Thanksgiving meal clocks in at more than 4,000 calories. But it may not be so bad. Last year, New York Times writer Tara Parker-Pope made a lavish meal and counted her calories along the way. Here's what she came up with:

• Meat (6 oz. turkey, both dark and white meat): 299

• Veggies (single servings of Brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce): 208

• Starches (single servings of potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, dinner roll with butter): 1,060

• Sweets (one slice each of pecan pie and pumpkin pie, each with a dollop of whipped cream): 919
