The 100th Anniversary of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb

When: Sat., May 28, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. 2016
Phone: 685-1454
Price: Free

A hundred years is a long time. Obviously, right? But consider that in 1916 we had just figured out how to change channels on the radio and were three years away from the invention of the pop-up toaster. That makes it extra impressive when you realize that the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, everyone's favorite car race to the top of Pikes Peak, has been around for a century this year. Join race historian Donald Sanborn and Lisa Haight, author of Tall Tales from Pikes Peak, as they present a history of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb through stories and photos. If you want to learn about the changes to the course, updates to safety regulations and the evolution of the racing automobile, you're in for a treat. While you're at the Manitou Springs Heritage Center, be sure to check out its new exhibit, which celebrates another anniversary — 125 years of the Cog Railway. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 517 Manitou Ave., donations accepted, 685-1454, — Alissa Smith
