The Buzzed Badger cares about coffee

This just in: Honey badger DOES give a shit, at least about coffee. Owner Shanyka Lock-Alcordo, a central Mississippi transplant, designed this café’s menu using a custom Building3-roasted blend she consulted on with that café’s owner, Sean Buckles. We try her two signature coffee drinks, the Honey Badger ($4.25/12-ounce) and the Buzzed Badger ($4.50/12-ounce). By cup’s end, we’re wishing the spot had more visible signage so more people will discover these worthy drinks.

The former, a latte, gets Torani honey syrup (honey, water and a preservative) and subtle nutmeg atop. It’s well-composed, all ingredients harmonizing. The buzzed badger is something else, an orange-dark chocolate-cayenne pepper mocha. The foam sees a powdered orange peel dusting. It’s rich and complex; cayenne slowly amplifies from bit role to major component. A vegan brownie ($1.75) ranks more cakey than fudgy and a touch dry, but within tolerances.
